What is Dry Ice Blasting?

Dry Ice Blasting is a non-abrasive cleaning process that uses CO2 (dry ice) pellets as an impact medium for removing surface contaminants. This means we can avoid the use of chemicals, abrasive materials and high temperatures where these common methods may not be suitable. With the use of high pressure, dry ice pellets are propelled towards the contaminated surfaces which removes the contaminant a couple different ways. One being high velocity and the other effect being thermal shock. The high pressure delivery of the pellets means, as they come in to contact with the surface it causes an instant sublimation of the solid dry ice into a gas. The gas expands and causes a micro thermal shock explosion at the point of impact which breaks down the bond between the contaminant and the surface it is attached to. Compared to other blast cleaning processes, dry ice blasting does not produce secondary waste contaminants that would normally require further cleaning or end up in waste streams causing possible harm to our environment.
